Our Story

The Healing Hut (Te Whare Ora) began in Nelson in 2022, while founder Jingjing was studying full-time in psychology.

Jingjing grew up with herbal medicine and healing bodywork. Following her late husband Phil's passing in 2017, she found comfort in Holistic Pulsing — a gentle therapy that works with the body's natural rhythm, easing both physical and emotional pain. Jingjing later became a certified practitioner, offering the same healing to others. As part of self-care after treatments, Jingjing began teaching Tai Chi and Qigong — and slowly, more and more people joined.

Today, Jingjing no longer runs a physical Healing Hut, but the spirit lives on through her classes and workshops.

About jingjing

Tēnā koe, Nǐ hǎo, Hello!

My name is Jingjing from  southwest of China. My journey with martial arts began at the age of 11. In my 20s, I stepped onto the Tai Chi path, initially training for two years under a lay monk from Wudang Mountain. My Tai Chi journey has continued ever since, guided by my Kung Fu sifu and my aunt. Today, I keep learning through every class I teach — thank you to all my wonderful students!

Outside of Tai Chi, I have a background in law and psychology. I am also a  Rongoā practitioner, fitness instructor, and yin yoga teacher. In my free time, I enjoy nature, Rotary, family time, and meditation, and of course, Tai Chi and Qi Gong!

I look forward to sharing the healing art of Tai Chi and Qigong with you!

Ngā mihi nui,

Jingjing

Why we are here?

Numerous studies indicate that stress and a sedentary lifestyle are major health risks causing heart disease, stroke, dementia, diabetes and obesity. Regular practice of Tai Chi and Qi Gong can significantly enhance calmness, productivity, balance and quality of life.

What makes us unique?

We believe in the gentle power of letting go, yielding, and moving — forward, backward, and everything in between — at your own pace. We honour each person's unique inner journey and our collective strength.

Our Community

We’re warm so that people are comfortable.

We’re delightful so that people are optimistic.

We’re reliable so that people are confident.

We’re calm so that people are relaxed.

Our logo

We chose the Tai Chi symbol as the archetype for our logo, incorporating the stroke of traditional Chinese brush painting to honor the whakapapa of Tai Chi.

The drop of ink resembles a person’s head, symbolising our bow to papatūānuku. The upward direction of the stroke represents healing and positive change.
